“The Breaking of Bread and to Prayer”
Here are the essential acts of
Worship. This is an act of remembering the Lordship of Jesus as well as
the Salvation from Jesus. Meal sharing in the time of the early church was
a clear communication of friendship and trust. As the Lord invites us to
His Table to remember Him, He clearly states his desire for us to be his trusted
friends. As we gather around the table we cannot help but remember what
Jesus did on the cross and proclaim him as Lord.
If too little has been asked of
the word Fellowship, perhaps too much has been asked of the word Worship.
Simply put worship is the ascribing of worth to God. Unfortunately we have
hinged too much of church life on one day per week and often only one hour of
that day. As we read in Acts 2 this devotion and breaking of bread and
prayer was not limited to one place or one time but “Every day they
continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their
homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying
the favor of all the people.” (vs. 46,47a). Therefore, not only is
worship a 24/7/365 deal, but so is our devotion to discipleship and the
fellowship.
"I Will Worship
Weekly"
The Holy Spirit can satisfy our hearts forever - if we let Him. The problem is
that sometimes we look to physical, created things for our fulfillment. But,
just as Jesus told the woman at the well, only the living water of the Spirit
can quench our thirst eternally. In the words of the classic hymn, "The
things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."
Worshipping
together with the family of God is integral to being part of a church community.
