“The Fellowship”
This poor word has been
watered down to a mere shadow of its intention. The Greek word is
koinonia which means partnership, the same word used to describe a
business partnership. This is so much more than lingering longer over
coffee and cookies. It is a uniting of vision and mission, putting our
hands together to the same plow, a unity of heart and mind and effort.
It describes a commitment to the organism of the Body of Christ created
by the Holy Spirit as each one dies to self and lives for Christ.
Note: the early Christians
devoted themselves (not “were devoted” but “devoted themselves” i.e.
completely gave themselves over to) to the (definite article) fellowship
(not to fellowshipping but to the fellowship).
